Who Are We?
Fight Like a Pearl Foundation was born from one little girl's incredible courage and the love that surrounded her throughout her cancer journey.
Pearl Elisa Nasont
May 18, 2020 - December 23, 2024
When our daughter, Pearl, was diagnosed with stage four Hepatoblastoma, our family quickly learned that we were in for a fight. Behind every child is a family navigating hospital stays, financial stress, uncertainty, and countless challenges that extend far beyond a diagnosis. During our time at Lucile Packard Children's Hospital Stanford, we experienced firsthand the compassion of healthcare workers, the generosity of our community, and the difference that even the smallest act of kindness can make.
We created the Fight Like a Pearl Foundation to honor Pearl's courage and strength and ensure that other families feel supported during one of the most difficult seasons of their lives. Our mission is to provide hope through practical support by helping ease the financial burden of treatment while bringing comfort and encouragement to children fighting cancer and the families who love them.
We are proud to begin our journey serving families at Lucile Packard Children's Hospital Stanford, with the vision of expanding our impact to children's hospitals throughout California as our foundation grows.
At Fight Like a Pearl Foundation, every donation, every volunteer, and every act of kindness helps another family remember that they are never fighting alone.
The Fight Like a Pearl Foundation is organized exclusively for charitable purposes under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. Its mission is to provide financial support, gifts, and essential items to children and families affected by cancer, and to conduct charitable programs and fundraising activities that honor the memory of Pearl Nasont, supporting vulnerable children and their families.
The Foundation exists to carry on Pearl Nasont’s legacy by providing tangible support and hope to children battling cancer and their families. We aim to make a meaningful difference in the lives of those most in need while keeping Pearl’s spirit alive through acts of compassion and kindness.
Why Fight Like a Pearl?
Fight Like a Pearl
Do you know how a pearl is formed? A pearl begins when a mollusk—such as a clam, mussel, or oyster—is introduced to an irritant like a grain of sand or a tiny parasite. As a natural defense, the mollusk coats the irritation with layers of nacre, slowly transforming pain into something breathtaking.
Pearls… pebbles born from imperfection. Society rightfully calls them beautiful—adorned, glimmering, radiant. Our daughter was the same. The brightest soul, leaving everyone changed by her light. She marked this world deeply, and the crater remains.
Was it random that her name had to be Pearl? We heard it once, and our eyes sparked. It was her. It was always her. When cancer tried to darken our fragile world, one phrase carried us through the storm: Fight Like a Pearl.
Much like the pearl itself, she endured what was meant to harm, transforming it into something full of grace and light. Though half her life was spent in that battle, she never stopped shining. Her laughter pierced through pain; her spirit gleamed through every shadow. She loved her short life fiercely, and her courage outshone everything thrown her way.
So we carry her spirit forward. We remind others what she taught us: beauty can rise from hardship, strength is born from love, and even in brokenness, light can still shine through.
You’ve got this. Kick cancer’s butt.
And always, always…
Fight Like a Pearl!
